I would give you living water…
Today our Lenten Journey takes us to the side of well in a small Samaritan town during the heat of the day. We go with this unnamed woman, a woman who had been married many times previously, a woman now living with a man who was not her husband, a woman who was looking for something to quench the thirst of her life, an answer to the question of what would actually make her happy. We look upon this woman and see her interact with Jesus, but hopefully on this Lenten Journey, we will take a further step. I pray that we will see ourselves in this woman:
we have sought for fulfillment and consolation and happiness in so many relationships, possessions, achievements, and they have never satisfied. We often find ourselves alone, maybe even cut off from others (which is why she is at the well at the hottest part of the day!), and maybe even close to giving up. It is there, it is
here, at the well, that we meet Jesus; or rather that Jesus comes to meet
us. He meets us at the well today to show us that He is the only one who can quench our thirst. Jesus is the answer to the question that is every human life. Only Jesus can give us that “life-giving water” that we were made for.
Our Mission this week is to go to our Lenten Mission with Christopher West and musician Mike Mangione. Their incredible presentation will address the thirst that we all have for something more in our life, and point us toward the One who can quench that thirst: Jesus. Can’t wait to see you on Friday March 24
th, right here in the church. God bless!
