At St. Dominic Catholic Church, we invite all men and young men of the parish, 1st communion age and older, to prayerfully consider the ministry of altar serving. Parents, please encourage your sons to serve at the altar!

As an altar server, you are involved in the holiest and most sacred events of Catholic worship. As you assist the priest in celebrating the Holy Mass you are facilitating the encounter between God and his people.

"Therefore in the liturgy you are far more than mere "helpers of the parish priest". Above all, you are servants of Jesus Christ, the eternal High Priest. Thus you altar servers especially are called to be young friends of Jesus. Strive to deepen and foster this friendship with him. You will discover that in Jesus you have found a true friend for life...I have spoken of friendship with Jesus. How happy I would be if something more sprang from this friendship! How beautiful it would be if some of you could discover a vocation to the priesthood! Jesus Christ urgently needs young people who generously make themselves available to him without reserve." Losing a loved one can be one of life's most difficult experiences. Companions in Grief is here to provide compassionate support, discussion, and prayer for those in need. Whether in a group or one-on-one setting, the ministry is dedicated to helping individuals find hope and healing on their grief journey.

Companions in Grief offers a safe and supportive space for individuals to gather and share their experiences with others who understand their pain. Through discussion and prayer, members of the group can find solace and comfort in the knowledge that they are not alone in their grief.

If you have recently experienced the loss of a loved one or are struggling to come to terms with a loss from the past, Companions in Grief is here to help. The ministry is committed to providing guidance and resources to help individuals navigate the difficult journey of grief. All are welcome to join, regardless of faith background or denomination. Come find comfort and support among those who understand the pain of loss, and discover that there is hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at Mass

General Principles

In every celebration of the Eucharist, there should be a sufficient number of ministers of Holy Communion so that it may be distributed in a reverent and orderly manner. Bishops, priests and deacons distribute Holy Communion in virtue of their office as ordinary ministers of the Body and Blood of the Lord. ⁽¹⁾ When the size of the congregation or the incapacity of the bishop, priest, or deacon requires it, the celebrant may be assisted by other bishops, priests, or deacons. If such ordinary ministers of Holy Communion are not present, "the priest may call upon extraordinary ministers to assist him, i.e., duly instituted acolytes or even other faithful who have been deputed for this purpose. In case of necessity, the priest may also depute suitable faithful for this single occasion (GIRM 162)."

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion should receive sufficient spiritual, theological, and practical preparation to fulfill their role with knowledge and reverence. In all matters they should follow the guidance of the diocesan bishop ( Norms for the Distribution and Reception of Holy Communion Under Both Kinds for the Dioceses of the United States of America, NDRHC, no. 28). When recourse is had to Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, especially in the distribution of Holy Communion under both kinds, their number should not be increased beyond what is required for the orderly and reverent distribution of the Body and Blood of the Lord. In all matters such Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion should follow the guidance of the diocesan bishop (IBID).

All ministers of Holy Communion should show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread or wine.

Before serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, individuals must receive training and permission from our Bishop.

The next training is Saturday, September 9 at 10:00am in the church.

Minimum requirements:

• at least 16 years of age
• fully initiated, practicing Catholic (baptized, confirmed, Eucharist)
• if married, married in the Catholic Church

The St. Vincent de Paul ministry is a dedicated group of volunteers who are committed to serving those in need in the local community. Inspired by the teachings of Christ and the example of St. Vincent de Paul, the ministry strives to bring love, compassion, and hope to those who are struggling.

The ministry provides a wide range of services, including emergency financial assistance, food assistance, and referrals for other social services. Volunteers work closely with local agencies and organizations to ensure that those in need receive the support they require.

In addition to the direct services provided, the St. Vincent de Paul ministry also offers a variety of opportunities for volunteers to get involved and make a difference. Whether it's through serving at the food pantry, providing transportation for those in need, or participating in the annual Thanksgiving dinner, there are many ways to support the ministry and serve the community.

The ministry believes that every person is deserving of love, respect, and dignity. They are committed to serving all members of the community, regardless of their background or circumstances. Anyone who is looking for a way to make a meaningful impact in the world and live out their faith in action is welcome to join the St. Vincent de Paul ministry.
